Derek Richter crowned 2008 Queen City Challenge - Cannonball Jump Champion
Derek Richter was named Cannonball Jump Champion at the 2008 Queen City Swim Challenge hosted by the Regina Optimist Dolphin Swim Club which took place at the Lawson Aquatic Centre on Sunday, April 20. Judges representing Sun Life judged over 30 participants ranging in ages from 10 to 40+, all looking to claim the title. Mayor Pat Fiacco made the first ceremonial jump and swam in the 1500 meter event.
Winning the 4,000 meter distance in the 15 & under division was Catherine McGillivray and Quinn Moore with the Open category won by Sara Pfeifer and Chris Myers. Bryce Fleming took home the honour of once again winning the 40 years and over division.
Boris Yunaev and Angelica James (15 & under) and Doug Farenick and Brenda Udahl (40+) were the fastest swimmers in the 1,500 meter event.
Top fundraiser for the event was Nicole Robinson with a portion of the proceeds from the 2008 Queen City Swim Challenge going to the North Central Community Association.
