2003 Saskatchewan Skills Competition
April 3-5, 2003
Regina, SK
Skills Canada Saskatchewan hosts annual Olympic-style skills
competitions that provide a forum for secondary, post-secondary and apprentice
students to compete in over 30 trade and technology competition areas.
Students participate in practical challenges designed to test the skills
required in trade and technology occupations.
The philosophy of the skills competitions is:
· To reward students for excellence
· To directly involve industry in evaluating student
performance
· To keep training relevant to employers’ needs
Each competition is unique and designed by technical experts
from education and industry. Competitions allow students to access the
newest technologies and communicate with industry experts who serve as
mentors by showing students that the skills they possess are valuable.
Who?
» Secondary, post-secondary and apprentice students compete in over
30 trade and technology contest areas.
» Grade 7 & 8 students participate in the Spectrum Challenge.
» There is NO age limit. Competitors cannot have their journeyperson
status.
What?
The provincial competition categories cover a broad range
of trade and technical areas. Categories include: traditional trades,
new emerging trades and technologies, and non-traditional or communication
areas that do not require acess to preparation with equipment.

Competitions will be held in Regina at SIAST Wascana Campus
and other locations to be determined.
**Registration package will be available for download in
early 2003.
Canadian Skills Competition
Recipients of the highest standing at the provincial competition are eligible
to move on and represent their province at the annual national competition.
They join over 1000 participants from across Canada in a showcase of skills!
The Canadian Skills Competition allows young Canadians, studying a skilled
trade or technology, to challenge themselves and to become the best in
their discipline.

World Skills Competition
Successful candidates from the national contest are then selected for
Team Canada to represent Canada at the World Skills Competitions held
every two years. This world event allows Canadians to compete, and network
with the Worlds’ elite.
